Homes with a basement in Orange, CA

Why would I want a basement in my home in Orange CA?

Not many think of looking for a home with a basement here in Orange. One reason is that there just are not that many homes with basements.

If you find a home with a basement, it would have been built anywhere from 1900 to the present day with the majority of homes in that 1900 to 1930's.  Most of the earlier basements were smaller and used for boilers, furnaces or water heaters along with some storage. The newer homes built within the last fifteen years might have a basement that is used for a child's messy room, man cave or an extravagant media center.

Homes closer to Old Towne Orange would fall into that first variety.
The homes found here, an area of about one square mile, consist of homes from the 1870's to the 1940's. These homes are complimented by other buildings such as churches, the Santa Fe train depot, post office, packing houses and parks which had existed since the early days of Orange's inception. The City of Orange has one of the highest concentrations of historic homes in California and looking much like it did back in the 1920's.

The beauty of a basement is that many times it is "extra space" or a bonus room. They are not always valued in the price of the home and if finished properly can add that extra kick to the home's value when it is time to resale.

Think of your basement as a getaway or a workshop, a place to spend time with the family on a hot day,the ultimate family room or just the storage facility that you no longer have to rent.

If you are on the high end of the market, you may be interested in a basement with a bit more space.
Homes with this amount of space will be found in the east side of Orange and are typically built from 1981 to the present.

I believe the one thing that a basement is ideal for is the Ultimate Wine Cellar.  What a great way to dress up that dark and dusty basement than by creating a one of a kind  wine storage facility.  Spend a romantic evening at home with a loved one or perhaps an intimate dinner party with the best of friends.

There are many books, videos and how to segments on the internet these days that can guide you and even instruct you on how to build your own basement to your specific style and liking.

So if you find yourself looking for a new home in Orange, think about including a basement as one of your desires. You just may find that perfect home with that hidden jewel of a space, the basement.
